WHEN TO CALL

If a tooth is broken, bleeding will not stop, or pain is taking over your day, treat it as a dental emergency and call us. These are the problems we see most often:

  • Severe toothache that painkillers are not touching

  • A broken, chipped or cracked tooth

  • A knocked out tooth

  • A lost filling or crown

  • Swelling of the gum or face, or a suspected abscess

  • A broken denture you rely on

Not sure whether it can wait? Call us anyway. It is far better to check than to sleep on an infection, and our team will tell you honestly whether you need to come in today.

Being on Swinnow Road puts us minutes from Bramley, Pudsey, Farsley, Stanningley, Rodley and Armley, so if you are searching for an emergency dentist in Pudsey or anywhere across West Leeds, we are one of the closest practices able to see you today.

Your emergency appointment covers the examination, diagnosis and getting you comfortable. If treatment is needed, you get a clear plan and price first, always.

Severe toothache

Rinse with warm salt water, take your usual painkillers as directed on the pack, and avoid anything very hot, cold or sweet. Pain that keeps you awake or spreads to your jaw or ear usually points to decay or infection that needs treatment, such as a filling or root canal treatment. It rarely settles on its own.

 Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side. Rarely painful at first, but the exposed tooth is vulnerable, so book within a day or two before it becomes a bigger problem.

Broken, chipped or cracked tooth

Keep any broken piece, rinse with warm water, and cover a sharp edge with sugar free chewing gum if it is catching your tongue. Broken tooth repair usually means smoothing, bonding, a white filling or an inlay or onlay. The sooner we see it, the more tooth we can usually save.

Abscess or facial swelling

A throbbing tooth with swelling, a bad taste or fever suggests an abscess. This is the one emergency you should never wait on, so call us the same day. If your face is swelling rapidly, or you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to A&E immediately.

Knocked out tooth

Time matters most. Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. If it is clean, place it gently back in the socket and bite on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it in milk and call us straight away. Never try to re insert a baby tooth.

Broken dentures

Do not attempt a home glue repair, as it usually makes a professional repair harder. We offer denture repairs and will get you back to eating comfortably as quickly as we can.
