These replicas let us accurately monitor your rate of wear from visit to visit, so we know whether it is stable or progressing. The same replicas are used to make protective guards for your teeth, shielding them from further wear while any underlying causes are brought under control.

​Tooth wear is not decay, and it is not one single problem. It usually comes from one or more of three things: acid erosion, where enamel is softened and dissolved by acidic food, drinks or reflux; grinding and clenching, which flattens and chips teeth over time, often during sleep; and abrasion, typically from brushing too hard.

1) Is tooth wear just normal ageing?
Some wear over a lifetime is normal, but tooth wear that causes sensitivity, chipping, flattened teeth or a changing bite is not something to accept as ageing. It has causes, usually acid erosion, grinding or overbrushing, and once those are identified it can be slowed, protected against and repaired.
2) Can worn teeth be repaired?
Yes. Worn teeth can be rebuilt with composite, a tooth coloured resin bonded directly onto the tooth, or with ceramic, a long lasting material that reinforces the tooth as well as restoring its appearance. After an in depth analysis of the shape and appearance of your new teeth, we recommend the material that suits how far the wear has gone.
3) Why are the edges of my front teeth turning see through?
Transparent edges are a classic sign of enamel wearing thin, often from acid erosion. It is worth an assessment sooner rather than later, because enamel does not grow back, but the teeth can be protected and rebuilt.
4) I grind my teeth at night. Can you help?
Yes. Grinding and clenching are among the most common causes of tooth wear. Your assessment identifies whether grinding is driving your wear, and we can make protective guards from digital replicas of your own teeth to shield them, alongside repairing any damage already done.
5) How do you know if my tooth wear is getting worse?
We measure it rather than guess. Digital replicas of your teeth, created with our Primescan Digital Scanner, are compared over time to accurately monitor your rate of wear, and your dentist assesses wear at every routine health check.
6) How much does worn teeth treatment cost?
It depends on the cause and how many teeth need attention, so your price follows your assessment. As a guide, a new patient examination is £70, composite bonding is £300 per tooth and ceramic bonding is £795 per tooth, and finance is available through Practi Finance for larger plans. You will always have the full price confirmed before treatment starts.
